NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Martin Smith and Carter Sanderson scored 19 points each to lead Lipscomb to an 88-78 win over Oakland City Monday.
Malcom Smith had a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds for the Bison.
This was the first win for Lipscomb's new head coach Casey Alexander. The Bison are now 1-1.
Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead, pushed it to 54-34 at the half and thwarted an Oakland City come-back bid in the second period. The teams were close on field goal percentage, but Lipscomb took the advantage on rebounds, 48-30.
Kendall Wittmer, with 21 points, and Trevor Smith with 20 points led the come-back bid by the Oaks. Oakland City's Ryan Helfert hit a jump shot with 2:28 remaining to close the margin to 83-74. A 3-pointer by Martin Smith and two free throws by Sanderson pushed the Lipscomb lead to 12 with 37 seconds remaining.
