CHICAGO (AP) -- Art Bernardi scored 18 points, including two free throws in the last seconds, to give Houston Baptist a 62-61 upset over NJIT on Friday in a Great West Conference semifinal.
NJIT was the No. 1 seed. No. 4 seed Houston Baptist (14-16) will play Chicago State for the championship Saturday.
Bernardi also had eight rebounds. Rob Lewis scored 12 points, and Dauson Womack added 10.
NJIT (16-13) led 30-24 at halftime and until the final seconds. Marcel Smith hit a 3-pointer for Houston Baptist, tying the game at 56 with 3:22 to play. After trading baskets and two ties, Bernardi hit a pair of free throws with 2 seconds remaining to tie the game and take the lead.
Ryan Woods led NJIT with 16 points. PJ Miller had 15 points, and Chris Flores added 10. Quentin Bastian had six rebounds.
