HAMILTON, N.Y. - Stephen Lumpkins scored 22 points and Tony Wroblicky had his first double-double of the season as American University topped Colgate 72-63 Saturday in each team's Patriot League opener.
Lumpkins hit 8 of 12 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds, and Wroblicky had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Blake Jolivette added 16 points for the Eagles (6-10).
American jumped to an 8-2 lead on Lumpkins jumper with 17:26 left in the first half, and Colgate never pulled closer than three points after that. The Raiders trailed 59-56 with 4:28 left, but Daniel Munoz hit two free throws and a jumper to spark an 8-2 run and American cruised to the finish from there.
Brandon James led Colgate (6-11) with 15 points, while Murphy Burnatowski had 14 points and nine rebounds and John Brandenburg had 12 points.
The Raiders committed just five turnovers but shot 37.5 percent (24 of 64).
