NORFOLK, Va. - Ryan Pearson scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as George Mason defeated Old Dominion 63-54 Thursday night for its fourth consecutive victory.
Bryon Allen added 14 points, Vertrail Vaughns had 13 and Mike Morrison had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Patriots (11-4, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association).
Kent Bazemore scored 17 to lead the Monarchs (7-8, 2-1).
George Mason led 34-31 at halftime after leading by as many as 12. The Patriots never relinquished the lead in the second half but couldn't build it back into double digits.
The Monarchs trailed 45-43 with 13:21 left after a 3-pointer by Donte Hill, but two layups and a free throw by Allen pushed the lead to seven points, and the Patriots never cut it to less than five after that.
Old Dominion shot just 29.5 percent (18 of 61), including 25 percent (7 of 28) in the second half.
