Wofford slams VMI 38-3

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Lorenzo Long ran for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Wofford slammed the Virginia Military Institute 38-3 on Saturday.

Octavius Harden added 100 yards while Chris Martin and quarterback Michael Weimer each ran for a score as the Terriers (5-3, 3-1 Southern) racked up 374 rushing yards. Weimer also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Long’s first touchdown run was the culmination of a 10-play, 75-yard drive on the game’s first possession. A minute later, Drake Michaelson ended VMI’s first drive with an interception of an Al Cobb pass, and the Terriers were again in scoring range. On third-and-11, Weimer found Will Irwin for a 19-yard score and a quick 14-0 lead.

Wofford held the Keydets (1-8, 0-4) to 197 total yards offense and picked off two VMI passes.

Cobb finished with 111 yards passing. VMI’s only score came on a 41-yard field goal by Dillon Christopher.
