Late score lifts Maine past Rhode Island 20-14.

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Jerickson Fedrick’s 10-yard touchdown run with just under 2 minutes remaining lifted Maine to a 20-14 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.

Fedrick’s score capped an 11-play, 70-yard drive to help the Black Bears (3-5, 2-3 Colonial Athletic Association) beat the Rams (0-8, 0-4) for the eighth-straight time.

Myles Holmes had given Rhode Island a 14-6 lead by returning the second half kickoff 100 yards.

Maine’s comeback started when Trevor Bates intercepted a pass by James Caparell and returned it 14 yards to the Rhode Island 12. A penalty put the Black Bears at the 7 before Nigel Beckford ran for 1 yard and then 6. He finished with 107 yards on 25 carries. A two-point conversion attempt to tie the game failed.

Maine missed a field goal on its next drive but followed that up with a drive that chewed up 5:18 and then added a two-point conversion.
