BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Lucas Beatty threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another Saturday to lead Gardner-Webb to a comeback win over Wofford, 43-36.
With the score even at 36, Beatty orchestrated a 10-play, 59-yard game-winning scoring drive, capped by his 5-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Cook.
Wofford drove to the Gardner-Webb 34 on its final possession, but were stopped on downs.
Gardner-Webb (2-2) trailed by two touchdowns late in the second quarter, before reeling off 22 consecutive points to take the lead. Wofford tied the game with 5:37 left in the game on an 11-yard touchdown run by quarterback Evan Jacks.
Jacks had 103 yards passing and 97 yards rushing for Wofford (1-2). Lorenzo Long added 151 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Terriers. Both Long and Jacks had touchdown runs of over 40-yards in the game, as Jacks scored from 45-yards out in the first and Long ripped of a 58-yard run in the second.
