Lions cut WR Carlin Isles, sign QB James Franklin

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have signed Missouri quarterback James Franklin.

Detroit cut rugby star Carlin Isles on Monday. The Lions signed the 5-foot-8, 165-pound Isles after an impressive workout late last season and added the former Ashland University football player to their practice squad.

The Lions also signed undrafted free agents Florida State fullback Chad Abram, Tennessee guard Alex Bullard, William & Mary defensive back Jerome Couplin, Wake Forest linebacker Justin Jackson, Kansas State offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, Oklahoma defensive back Gabe Lynn, Louisiana-Lafayette tight end Jacob Maxwell, Old Dominion guard D.J. Morrell, Appalachian State receiver Andrew Peacock, and Nebraska defensive back Mohammed Seisay.

Detroit also released Sherman Carter, Jon Morgan, Nate Ness, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, John Potter, Matt Veldman and Cody Wilson.
