WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) -- Army opens its season on Friday night at Michie (MIKE'-ee) Stadium against Morgan State.

The Black Knights have a big void to fill with the departure of record-setting quarterback Trent Steelman. Junior Angel Santiago, who served as the primary backup to Steelman for two seasons, has been tabbed as the starter, but coach Rich Ellerson says sophomore A.J. Schurr likely will see time against the Bears.

Army's triple option has led the nation in rushing the past two years and is expected to keep purring without Steelman. Raymond Maples, who gained 1,215 yards last year, is shooting for his third straight 1,000-yard season. He's among six of the top eight rushers who return from last season's squad.

Army and Morgan State are meeting for the first time. The Bears play at Division I's second level and are used to facing at least one Football Bowl Subdivision team a year.
