WASHINGTON - Bob Madigan joined 46 women recently to do two things: shave their heads and honor children who have been diagnosed with cancer.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation event, "46 Mommas: Shave for the Brave," gathered mothers at Union Station Wednesday to honor the 46 children diagnosed with cancer every weekday.

Sherri Carmical of Ashburn was one of the mothers who had her hair sheared in honor of her son.

"While I was getting my head shaved, I felt a strong connection to my son, who passed away last August 18, eight days shy of his first birthday," Carmical says. "Tears were flowing, but they were happy tears."

Carmical's story touched the "Man About Town" so much, he decided to join the cause.

"If I walk into a black tie affair, and people say 'What happened?!?' I'll be able to tell them and spread awareness."

Madigan says he will proudly wear his newfound baldness.
