Man dies after fall from tram on steep slope

ARNOLD, Md. (AP) – Anne Arundel County police say a 69-year-old man has died after falling from a tram used to reach a dock along the Severn River.

Police say John Menzies died early Saturday after rescue workers pulled him up the steep slope at his Arnold home on Friday evening.

Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy says Menzies’ wife called 911 after hearing the tram cable snap and finding her husband beneath the car on the slope. Rescuers reached Menzies suffering from multiple injuries about 200 feet down the slope and hauled him up to a waiting ambulance.

Menzies was flown to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where Mulcahy says he died early Saturday.

Police are investigating the death, but say there is no indication of foul play.
