Annapolis wins $1.5M grant to rebuild City Dock

Saturday - 4/13/2013, 1:52pm  ET

ANNPOLIS, Md. - Annapolis has won a federal grant to help fund a $12.6 million plan to finish rebuilding the City Dock.

The Capital (http://bit.ly/156biqA ) reports the government awarded the city a $1.5 million grant for the project. The rebuilding will address flooding issues and provide boat slip improvements.

The project continues work that began in 2008. The second phase will rebuild 700 feet of waterfront from the Harbormaster's Office around the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial and ending at the Fleet Reserve Club. Pipes and infrastructure would be replaced behind the dock's bulkhead.

Assistant City Manager Virginia Burke says construction is expected to begin after the 2014 fall boat shows. Boating improvements spurred the federal grant from boat taxes.

The new system will include storm water holding areas and pumps to prevent flooding.
