Anne Arundel Co. schools head proposes $1B budget

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Anne Arundel County schools superintendent has proposed a $1 billion budget, the largest in the system's history.
Kevin Maxwell proposed the 2014 budget on Wednesday. The County Council has final say on the budget. It is a 3 percent increase over fiscal year 2013.
Maxwell's proposal includes more than $153 million for renovation projects at 10 schools, including the completion of construction at Point Pleasant Elementary in Glen Burnie and the new Phoenix Academy.
The Capital of Annapolis reports ( http://bit.ly/T8qrmW) that public hearings on the proposed schools budget will be conducted Jan. 8 and Jan. 10.
