Flooding prompts evacuations, train delays

Monday - 8/15/2011, 6:31pm  ET

BALTIMORE (AP) - Torrential rain flooded roads and homes as storms moved slowly through the Baltimore region.

Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright says a family was evacuated from a home in the 3400 block of Spelman Road when five feet of water flooded their basement Monday morning. He says six neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.

In Anne Arundel County, fire department Capt. James Rostec says crews helped move five people to dry land when two vehicles got stuck in water on Belgrove Road.

The rain flooded several roads and a portion of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Amtrak and MARC suspended service south of Baltimore briefly when a section of tracks was covered in more than a foot of water.
