3rd Annual Navy Band Clarinet Day

The United States Navy Band will host its third annual Navy Band Clarinet Day on Saturday, November 8th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Washington Navy Yard in the historic Sail Loft.

Clarinet Day was designed to provide a forum for Navy Band clarinetists to perform solo and chamber works outside of the concert band and to provide musical outreach and instruction for clarinet students in the District of Columbia metropolitan area. It is our goal that students will benefit from hearing Navy Band musicians in a more intimate setting with both recitals and clinics geared toward their instrument.

This year will feature lectures, masterclasses, recitals and an auditions panel discussion presented by Dr. Mark Gallagher, associate professor of Clarinet at Frostburg State University; Mitchell Estrin, professor of clarinet at the University of Florida; Eugene Mondie, assistant principal and Eb Clarinetist with the National Symphony Orchestra; and Paul Cigan, Second Clarinetist with the National Symphony Orchestra. The day will also include a military band clarinet quartet recital and a performance by the Navy Band Clarinet Choir. In addition, Mark Jacobi and Wesley Rice will talk about clarinet repair, and representatives from Buffet, Vandoren and Rico will have products available for purchase.

This event is free and open to the public. The Sail Loft is located at 617 Warrington Ave. S.E., Washington D.C. For registration information and a complete schedule, please visit navyband.navy.mil/event. Return registration forms to NavyClarinetDay@gmail.com.
