FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says the father was the shooter in a murder-suicide last week that left three family members dead in their home near New Market.
Capt. Tim Clarke said Monday that 40-year-old Benyam Asefa (as-EF'-ah) and his 42-year-old wife Barbara Giomarelli started arguing Wednesday evening as she gave their 5-year-old daughter a bath.
Clarke says they took their disagreement downstairs to the kitchen, where Asefa shot Giomarelli with a registered, 9 mm handgun.
Clarke says the bullet passed through Giomarelli and killed 3-month-old Samuel Asefa in his mother's arms. Benyam Asefa then shot himself.
Clark says the girl discovered the scene and sought help from a neighbor, who called 911.
Investigators have learned that the couple had previous domestic problems, but police had never been called.
