Security tight for Frederick half-marathon weekend

Saturday - 5/4/2013, 8:38am  ET

FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick city police say they've tweaked their security plans for this weekend's Frederick Running Festival in light of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Lt. Jason Keckler told The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/ZZXnPt ) that runners in the half-marathon Sunday will have to carry any belongings in clear, plastic bags provided by race organizers.

He says police are relying on residents to report any suspicious activity or items.

The festival begins Saturday with a 5-kilometer run.

Organizers are honoring victims of the Boston bombings by asking runners to wear blue and yellow shoelaces, the colors of the Boston Marathon.

They also plan to play the unofficial Boston Red Sox anthem, "Sweet Caroline," at the start of both races.
