Ground broken in Frederick for 300 rental units

Homewood at Crumland Farms is being joined by a new community.

Homewood at Willow Ponds will include 300 dwelling units at 7407 Willow Road off U.S. 15, north of Frederick city.

Construction has begun at the site, and the first cottages are on track to be built in the spring, according to Cheryl Wright, director of marketing.

Build-out on the 100-acre site is predicted to take seven to 10 years, Wright wrote in an email.

Homewood at Willow Ponds will have 100 apartments and 200 cottages.

The brick or stone front cottages will each have two bedrooms, two baths, a two-car garage and options including breakfast nooks and sunrooms.

The rental community is for adults age 55 and older, and residents will have access to care when needed at Homewood at Crumland Farms, across Willow Road.

A three-story clubhouse, attached to the apartments, will offer bistro dining, auditorium space, classroom space, and a swimming pool and gym. The apartment building will have covered parking.

Residents will be able to bike, hike and do other outdoor activities on the 100-acre site.
