WASHINGTON - The spirit of Christmas arrives this week for some of the less fortunate as Toys for Tots prepares to deliver toy donations.

The gifts being sorted by age and gender and then will be distributed this week to needy families referred by social welfare organizations and churches.

"As long as we can help families and children during a time of need, that's good for us and good for the community," says Marine First Sergeant Anthony Vargus. "It's a good program that started in the 1940s."

Since its inception, Toys for Tots as a whole has collected and distributed more than 470 million Toys.
