WASHINGTON - By chance or fate, a New Jersey family has been reunited with a dog they had lost in Hurricane Sandy 18 months ago.
The family went to the Monmouth County SPCA in Eatontown, N.J. to look into adopting a new dog after giving up hope of finding their dog, Reckless, who ran away in the hurricane. After talking with the family, an adoption counselor brought out a dog who sounded like he could be a good match.
The match couldn't have been any more perfect.
The dog, named Reckless, was in the shelter as a stray. Liz Wise of Monmouth County's SPCA told Yahoo News, "We don't know this for a fact, but we believe what happened is that when the dog was originally lost after the hurricane, somebody found him and took him in and didn't bring him into a shelter. Then he got out again and one of our employees found him and brought him in."
The Monmouth SPCA posted the story on its Facebook page, where it has been shared more than 30,000 times since Thursday. One Facebook commenter commended the adoption counselor for being so good at her job.
