This is what happens inside your skin when a mosquito bites

Thursday - 8/8/2013, 5:00pm  ET

WASHINGTON -- The footage below shows exactly what happens inside your skin when you're bitten by a mosquito.

What looks like a brown needle is actually a mosquito snout, and what looks like pebbles is actually the skin cells of a mouse's flesh, reports National Geographic.

The footage was taken at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, where Valerie Choumet and colleagues used a microscope to watch mosquitoes bite a flap of skin on an anesthetized mouse.
