WASHINGTON – While some enjoy grocery shopping, waiting in line at the checkout counter is another matter.
Grocery stores are least crowded on Wednesdays, according to Readers Digest, and there is more elbow room for shopping any day of the week between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.
The 24-hour grocery stores in the region can be ghost towns off normal business hours.
Reader’s Digest also notes that common produce like broccoli is likely to be more fresh than exotic items like star fruit or mangoes.
Bargain-priced items from smaller manufacturers are more likely to be stocked on shelves that are very high or very low.
Penny-pinching customers also should be wary of sales and specials. When items are offered “eight for $10” or labeled “limit five,” shoppers tend to buy 30 to 100 percent more than they typically would.
