WASHINGTON — Drivers should prepare for traffic changes near D.C.’s Union
Station and Third Street Tunnel Tuesday.
Beginning Tuesday, a new traffic
pattern will close 3rd Street north of H Street
in Northwest.
The change will allow for utility work that will eventually help
new buildings go above the Third Street Tunnel.
The construction is part of Phase 2 of the Third Street Tunnel Project.
During the phase, drivers can drive westbound on H Street straight through to
Massachusetts Avenue.
“The related work, involving removal, relocation and replacement of existing
underground utilities will impact both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and
is
expected to last
six months, weather permitting,” a release says.
Temporary lane closures should be expected until 12 a.m. Wednesday, and
traffic cones and barrels will redirect traffic.
