Abandoned boat causes traffic delays on Beltway

WASHINGTON – An abandoned boat turned heads and caused major delays on the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County Wednesday morning.

The large boat faced the opposite direction of traffic on the left shoulder of the Inner loop of the Beltway, just before the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. The boat, which maintained its tarp and remained unscathed through the morning, caused delays during rush hour as traffic was backed up for approximately seven miles.

The boat on a trailer was left on the side of the road with no driver in sight.

The boat’s owner has until Thursday morning to pick up to boat or it will be impounded, according to a Maryland State Police spokesperson.

The boat did not require immediate removal because it did not seem suspicious, according the Maryland State Police. While the make and the model of the large boat are not yet clear, it does have a Georgia license plate.
