Sandy affects Metro, MARC and VRE service

WASHINGTON – Metro will not be resuming service Tuesday morning because of Hurricane Sandy. MARC and Virginia Railway Express have announced that all service has been canceled for Tuesday.

Metro, MARC and VRE suspended all service Monday ahead of Sandy’s arrival.

The Metrorail and Metrobus systems stopped running at its normal time Sunday night. Metro also canceled MetroAcess service until further notice.

Metro says service will be restored only when conditions are safe to do so, and the agency has had a chance to assess damage and weather conditions in the morning.

The last time Metro canceled service was during Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

MARC says it will update passengers on its website as the storm’s progression changes.

The Maryland Transit Administration has canceled MTA commuter bus, Batlimore subway, light rail and mobility/paratransit service through Tuesday.

Other area transportation systems that are shut down:

  • Montgomery County’s Ride On has suspended service suspended through Tuesday.
  • The Fairfax Connector bus service has been suspended through Tuesday.
  • The D.C. Circulator will resume service at 2p.m. Tuesday.
  • In Alexandria, the DASH bus and the King Street Trolley will not run through Tuesday.
  • Prince William County’s PRTC buses has been suspended through Tuesday.
  • Charles County’s VanGo transportation service has been suspended through Tuesday.
  • The City of Fairfax’s City CUE Bus service has been suspended through Tuesday.
  • The Bus in Prince George’s County is suspended until further notice.
  • Arlington’s ART bus service is suspended through Tuesday.
  • The Loudoun County Commuter Bus system and the Tysons Express Bus services have been canceled for through Tuesday.
  • Howard County’s Connect-A-Ride is suspended through Tuesday.

Capital Bikeshare service is suspended through Tuesday morning.

Car2Go, a car-sharing service in D.C., announced that their service will be shutting down until further notice until 7 p.m. Monday.
