Silver Spring Transit Center to open in September

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County officials say they plan to open the $112 million Silver Spring Transit Center by September.

The Washington Post reports that the project is two years behind schedule and has been on hold since January due to problems with the building's concrete. Officials said Thursday that they expect to start fixing the problem in April.

The county recently alleged that construction workers improperly poured concrete on two floors of the building. But the contractor, Foulger-Pratt, said the building was structurally sound. Officials say the county and Foulger-Pratt are now working together toward a solution.

When completed, the transit center would bring together buses, Metro and MARC trains in the downtown area.
