Public hearings to be held on I-95 HOV/HOT lanes

WASHINGTON -- Plans are moving ahead for high occupancy lanes on Interstate 95 in Virginia, and the public is getting a chance to weigh in on the project.

Three public hearings will be held this week to let residents know about design plans for high occupancy vehicle (HOV) and high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes in Fairfax and Stafford counties. A formal presentation isn't expected, but the public will have a chance to ask questions or submit written ones.

The I-95 HOT lanes will stretch 29 miles with an estimated price tag of $1 billion.

Construction could start in the spring. The project is expected to take three years to complete.
