Power outages, flooding to hamper Md. commute

Sunday - 8/28/2011, 9:57pm  ET

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - Officials say some morning commuters in the Baltimore-Washington area may encounter hurdles in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker said Sunday that flooding near county offices could prevent some workers from reaching their jobs Monday.

The Maryland Transit Administration says there may be no parking-lot lights or working ticket machines at the Perryville, Aberdeen or Halethorpe MARC stations on the Penn Line due to power outages. They're urging those riding pre-dawn or late-evening trains to carry flashlights.

And commuters who use the Bowie State station on the Penn Line are advised to wear old shoes because the tunnel flooded during the storm and there may still be water on Monday.

Officials say the Penn Line will operate on an "S" schedule Monday.
