WASHINGTON - Drivers should prepare for lane closures on roads near the InterCounty Connector project during Monday afternoon's commute.
One lane will close at 5 p.m. on southbound Columbia Pike between Briggs Chaney Road and East Randolph/Cherry Hill Roads in Fairland. A second lane will close around 10 p.m.
Maryland State Highway officials say the lane closures should not cause any issues as it will be on the opposite side of the heavier rush hour traffic.
They have had early morning lane closures on northbound 29, which have not resulted in any delays or congestion.
The lanes should reopen in time for Tuesday morning commute.
The overnight and evening closures will last three weeks. All lanes will remain open on Friday and Saturday nights.
Similar work on the northbound side of Route 29 will happen next month.
The repaving is part of the ICC project. The full ICC should be open by early next year.
