Lauryn Ricketts

ABC 7 Meteorologist

Yet another local addition to the weather team, Lauryn Ricketts joined the WJLA Stormwatch7 team in January of 2013. Originally from the Shenandoah Valley-more specifically, Winchester, Virginia, Lauryn has over a decade of experience forecasting in or around the DC area.

While attending college at Randolph Macon in Ashland, VA, she gained valuable experience working at the local Richmond station WRIC under Chief Meteorologist John Bernier. That is when she got her first taste for broadcast meteorology. Since then she went on to work at WTTG-Fox5 in Washington, DC, headed up the weather center at WHSV-TV3Winchester as their Chief and also worked with the weather team's at both WBFF and WMAR in Baltimore, MD. A highlight in her career came when she was asked to commentate the National Memorial Day Parade in DC with cohost Rita Crosby. She also had a 6 year stint commentating the annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Parade in her hometown of Winchester, VA. You may have also heard Lauryn on local radio on 104.9/105.5 THE Bone with PJ Elliott as well as with 106.7 THE FAN "Overtime with Bill Rohland" and "Kevin and Rock" giving the "Official Tailgating Weather Forecast" for all those NFL fans out there.

Lauryn has always wanted to study weather ever since she was a little girl. Always having a passion for science, she was captivated by cloud patterns, severe weather events and even the stars in their constellations at night. When people asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up, she promptly answered "a meteorologist," and she has stuck with that goal ever since. While growing up in the DC area she remembers watching and learning from DC legends like Doug Hill, Bob Ryan and Sue Palka…and she has fulfilled her dreams working closely with all of them.

Lauryn always tries to be home by 7:30 PM so she can watch jeopardy, one of her long-time favorite shows (however, she is absolutely terrible at wheel-of-fortune). She also loves cooking extravagant meals; she can get lost in the works at the National Gallery of Art, and is Pilates fanatic (because she believes it doesn't actually feel like you are working out). Lauryn also follows women's local high school soccer ever since her collegiate playing days at RMC and coaching days at an area high school. An avid DC sports fan and a true life-long Washington Redskins fan, Lauryn lives for not only for the weather, but for DC sports. Hail!
