NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening slightly lower, led by declines in the energy sector as the price of oil continues to fall.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell three points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,014 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell four points, less than 0.1 percent, to 17,361. The Nasdaq composite fell 12 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,625.
Energy stocks fell more than the rest of the market as the price of crude oil moved lower again. Chevron fell 1 percent, the most of the 30 stocks in the Dow.
U.S. crude fell $1.53, or 2 percent, to $77.24 a barrel in New York.
Bond prices didn’t move much. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was little changed at 2.34 percent.
