Amazon workers in Germany on strike again

BERLIN (AP) — Workers at Amazon.com in Germany are on strike again as a union pushes its demands in a long-running wage dispute with the American online retailer.

The ver.di union said Monday workers at Amazon’s logistics centers in Bad Hersfeld, Leipzig, Rheinberg and Graben will be off the job through the end of Wednesday’s late shift, while those at Werne through Tuesday’s late shift.

The union didn’t say how many workers at the five sites would be involved. Amazon employs some 9,000 people in nine locations in Germany.

For more than a year, the union has pushed for higher pay, arguing Amazon workers receive lower wages than others in retail and mail-order jobs.

Amazon says its distribution warehouses in Germany are logistics centers and employees earn relatively high wages for that industry.
