Mom wants ‘Breaking Bad’ figures pulled from Toys R Us

WASHINGTON — AMC’s “Breaking Bad” is a television smash, but it’s not a hit with one mom who opposes the sale of the show’s dolls.

Susan Schrivjer, a mother from Fort Myers, Florida, launched a petition on Change.org earlier this month to have “Breaking Bad” action figures pulled from the shelves of Toys R Us.

“Toys R Us is well known around the world for their vast selection of toys for children of all ages. However their decision to sell a Breaking Bad doll, complete with a detachable sack of cash and a bag of meth, alongside children’s toys is a dangerous deviation from their family friendly values,” writes Schrivjer, who posted the petition under “Susan Myers.”

As of Tuesday morning, more than 7,100 signatures are on the petition.

The Emmy Award-winning show tells the story of a chemistry teacher turned meth kingpin. There are dolls of Walter White, his assistance Jesse Pinkman and White as his alter ego, Heisenberg.

While Schrivjer told CNN that she enjoyed the show, she says she doesn’t think it’s appropriate for kids.

“While the show may be compelling viewing for adults, its violent content and celebration of the drug trade make this collection unsuitable to be sold alongside Barbie dolls and Disney characters,” she wrote on the petition.

The show’s leading actor, Bryan Cranston responded to the news on Twitter with a jab at Schrivjer.

Toys R Us released a statement about the dolls to WFTX in Fort Myers.

“The products you reference are carried in very limited quantities and the product packaging clearly notes that the items are intended for ages 15 and up. Items from this TV series are located in the adult action figure area of our stores.”
