Amazon’s ‘unicorn’ discount codes

WASHINGTON – An Amazon coupon code would be the holy grail of coupon codes.

Unfortunately, it’s also a unicorn, meaning it just doesn’t exist.

Well, mostly.

According to Yahoo!, the rare code typically is product-specific, like one recently offered for Quicken software.

To get a discount on Amazon, Yahoo! suggests joining Amazon Prime for free shipping — though it does cost $79 a year. For college students, Amazon Prime is available for free in the form of Amazon Student.

There’s also a product called Amazon Mom that has special coupons for child-related items. Dads can join, too.

Deals are also all about timing. One site that tracks pricing trends is CamelCamelCamel, and it can notify shoppers of price drops on specific products.
