Dulles among top airports … for a date

WASHINGTON – Sometimes love isn’t in the air. It’s on the ground, just a few steps from the gate.

Instead of complaining about cramped seats, delayed flights and no peanuts, certain passengers use the airport experience to get their groove on.

And one of the top spots to take a date is the Dulles International Airport, according to an unscientific survey by MeetAtTheAirport.com.

It lists Vino Volo as No. 2 among the best airport restaurants to take a date. Respondents called it relaxing, and were big fans of the wine selection.

The airport wine bar has locations in the B and C Concourses.

Here’s the full airport restaurant list:

1: The Encounter, LAX: Although it scores the lowest Yelp rating on our list (3 stars), this psychedelic, dome-shaped bar at the center of the LAX theme building has a lot to offer. No surprise for an establishment with a name that literally means to meet unexpectedly.

2: Vino Volo, Washington Dulles Airport, Gate C3: In terms of Yelp ratings, it is only one of two airport restaurants on our list with a 4.5 Yelp rating. Our members described it as “relaxing” with “good food” and a “good wine selection.” One member wrote: “Vino Volo makes flying out of Dulles a pleasure.”

3: The Salt Lick, Austin-Bergstrom Airport, Food Court: With a 4.5 Yelp rating, and genuine Texas food, The Salt Lick demands a spot on our list. As you pass through the airport of the “Live Music Capital of the World,” don’t miss grabbing some Salt Lick BBQ. It’s the next best thing to making it out to Round Rock or Driftwood. Compared to Chili’s and other boring airport standards.

4: Pappadeau Seafood, IAH Airport, Gate E4: With a 3.5 Yelp rating, Pappadeau Seafood offers some of the best Creole and Cajun cuisine this side of New Orleans – gumbo, crawfish, catfish and much more. Being so close to Louisiana, the Greater Houston Area is little known for its fantastic variety of more than 100 cajun restaurants in the area. Pappadeau Seafood is a chain of several restaurants in the Houston area, the airport location offers a nice relaxing atmosphere.

5: Anthony’s Restaurant and Fish Bar, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Central Terminal: With a 3.5 Yelp rating, Anthony’s delivers a great view and a great Bloody Mary.
