(AP) - THE NEWS: PepsiCo Inc. says its president is leaving the company after less than a year on the job.

THE BACKGROUND: John Compton, 51, had been with the company for about 30 years and was named to the newly created position of president in March as part of a management restructuring.

THE BIG PICTURE: Compton's departure could indicate that CEO Indra Nooyi doesn't have any plans to leave soon, says John Sicher, editor of Beverage Digest, a closely watched industry tracker.
