(AP) - TA-DAH! SONGZA: Songza, a new online radio service, leapfrogged Pandora as the most popular free music app for Apple devices last week. It's the latest entrant to try to make money by offering free music online.
AUDIO AD FREE: Songza has banned audio ads because they're mood-killers. That has gained fans but cripples its ability to turn a profit.
LIFESTYLE BUSINESS: The company hopes to build its business by learning what people are doing during the day. People select playlists with themes like "unwinding after a long day," "working out," and "eating dinner." Those lifestyle clues could appeal to advertisers.
