(AP) - Stocks wavered for most of Monday, with the upcoming presidential election rendering investors indecisive. Companies like toymaker Hasbro and SunTrust Banks turned in third-quarter results that underwhelmed investors. At the end of the day, stocks closed slightly higher.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 2.38 points, or 0.02 percent, to 13,345.89.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.62 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,433.81.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 11.34 points, or 0.4 percent, to 3,016.96.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,128.33 points, or 9.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 176.21 points, or 14 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 411.81 points, or 15.8 percent.
