Police seek two men in two Hyattsville assaults

WASHINGTON — Hyattsville City Police are searching for two men in two recent assaults on female pedestrians.

The first incident happened on July 10 in the 2000 block of Jamestown Road in Hyattsville at about 10 p.m.

A man approached a women walking form the West Hyattsville Metro Station and demanded her cellphone. The man then attempted to pull the woman into a nearby wooded area, but she struggled and was able to flee the area, according to police.

The man is described as Hispanic, between 20 and 25 years old and about 5 foot, 8 inches tall. He wore black pants, a red shirt and a white hat at the time of the offense.

The second assault was on July 23 in the 3900 block of Hamilton Street in Hyattsville at about 12:50 a.m.

In this case, a woman was walking on the sidewalk when a man jumped out of nearby woods and approached the woman and said, “What’s up,” according to police. The man grabbed the woman by her shirt, threw her to the ground and began ripping off her clothes, police say.

The women fought back and screamed for help. She escaped after a brief struggle.

The man is described as Hispanic and between 30 and 35 years old. He is about 5 foot, 8 inches tall and 170 pounds with short black hair and dark brown eyes, police say. He wore a black T-shirt with a pocket on the left breast, blue jeans and black and gray Nike shoes at the time of the incident.
