Slope failure evacuees get monetary assistance

WASHINGTON — Earlier this month, several homes were evacuated in Fort Washington after a few of them began to slide off their foundations.

Now, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III has announced ways for you to help those displaced by the slope failure.

The Peterson Family Foundation and the Walmart Foundation have created the Fort Washington Relief Fund. To launch the initiative, the proprietors donated $10,000 and $500 in gift cards to Walmart for the affected families.

“For the past two weeks, the Piscataway Hills Community has had to adjust to a very tough situation, and some residents are beginning to face unexpected financial hardships,” Baker said in a statement. “These donations will help them lighten some of the financial burdens they are dealing with.”
