WASHINGTON – Police are still trying to identify a woman who was struck and killed on the Outer Loop of the Beltway in Prince George’s County early Saturday morning.

Just after 1a.m., a woman traveling in a dark-colored car veered off the road and crashed into a median guardrail. She then apparently got out of her car and walked into the travel lanes of the Outer Loop, where she was struck by several cars and killed.

Police say the woman’s body was disfigured beyond recognition. Anyone with information is asked to call Maryland State Police.

All lanes of the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway were shut down for hours at Ritchie Marlboro Road in Prince George’s County following the fatal accident.

The female driver of the car either was ejected from the vehicle or was hit by another car after getting out of her own.

Wet and slippery roads may have been a factor in the incident.

Traffic was stopped at Exit 13 and had been backed up roughly two miles from the scene of the incident.

The lanes reopened to traffic at about 7:30 a.m.
