Man critically injured in car, train wreck

WASHINGTON – A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after a CSX train collided with his car at a railroad crossing in Prince George’s County Wednesday afternoon.

Fire officials believe the man was trying to beat the train across the at-grade tracks on Brandywine Road near Cherry Tree Crossing Road when he was hit, a spokesman tells WTOP.

The crossing does not have have electronic arms to protect traffic from oncoming trains, fire officials say.

The unidentified man faces life-threatening, upper-body injuries and was taken to a trauma center by helicopter.

The train was traveling north at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation, fire officials say.
