WASHINGTON - Two Maryland police departments are working to sort out what happened on Saturday when an off-duty Montgomery County officer is said to have pulled his gun in an argument during pre-game festivities at University of Maryland.
University police say the officer allegedly hit a man with his car in a busy parking lot, then drew his gun when things escalated at the scene, reports The Diamondback, the college's student newspaper.
Montgomery County police have confirmed that one of their officers was involved in a "traffic dispute" on campus, but have not named the officer or the individual.
According to The Diamondback, two men were walking through Lot 1 on Saturday when the off-duty officer hit one of them with his car mirror. The man then through his water bottle at the windshield of the officer's Honda Civic. At some point, the off-duty officer drew his weapon.
One witness said the officer overreacted and was belligerent.
The incident is under investigation.
