WASHINGTON - Students, teachers and friends of a Central High School junior shot and killed walking to school this week remembered his life Friday afternoon.

Marckel Ross' family released dozens of light blue balloons into the air in Capitol Heights after an emotional tribute to the 18-year-old in the school's auditorium.

"I have never seen a school that had this much love for Marckel, but God had a better place for my son," said Ross' mother.

No arrests have been made in Ross' killing. Police are looking for tips. The funeral is planned for Thursday.

No one heard any gun shots the morning Ross was shot, but Prince George's County police say offiers got calls from other people who saw the high school junior's body. Police initially said Ross was walking alone to school but now they are not sure.

Officers did a grid search of the scene Tuesday and interviewed Ross' fellow students, looking for witnesses.

Principal Charoscar Coleman called Ross' killing a "tremendous loss for the school community." He says that Ross was a big part of a modeling program at the school.
