NEW YORK (AP) — Jeremy Renner says having a baby girl has “opened up another thing inside of me” and he is now “sensitive to everything” because of her.

The twice Oscar-nominated actor says that he is more critical of “pointless violence” in films and is careful to avoid being photographed with a cigarette so as not to influence children watching him. He says he was always an unapologetic smoker and would not care if he didn’t have a daughter.

His daughter, Ava Berlin Renner, with former girlfriend Sonni Pacheco, is just over a year old.

Renner spoke recently from London during a break from filming “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” due out next year, in which he reprises his role as Hawkeye.

Renner, who is also in the “Bourne” and “Mission Impossible” films will not say much about the Avengers sequel but does reveal that it will further explore his Marvel Comics character. He says he and director Joss Whedon wanted to do that in the first film but notes that since Hawkeye was pretty much “hypnotized” throughout, it was not “really the best way to introduce a new superhero to the group.”

Renner also just wrapped up narrating the History Channel’s “The World Wars,” a six-hour miniseries that runs on three consecutive nights beginning Memorial Day.

It examines the three decades around World War I and World War II from the perspective of pivotal figures like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Adolph Hitler. Renner, who says he’s a fan of non-fiction in television and books, says doing the voiceover was an education for him as he hopes it will be for people of “the Internet age” about what people endured for the freedom and way of life they have today.
