007 producers to make movie on Snowden book

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The stewards of the James Bond franchise will use their talent for intrigue to produce a movie based on reporter Glenn Greenwald’s book about Edward Snowden’s leak of top-secret U.S. surveillance documents.

Sony Pictures said Wednesday that EON Productions’ Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will produce the film based on “No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA and the U.S. Surveillance State.”

The book was released for sale on Tuesday.

Sony and EON have been partners on the latest installations of the Bond series including 2012’s “Skyfall.” The next Bond movie, directed by Sam Mendes, is due out next year.

Wilson and Broccoli called Greenwald’s story a “terrifying personal account of one of the most relevant political events of our time.”

No release date was set.
