CBS ratings soar for Thursday Night Football debut

NEW YORK (AP) — The CBS debut broadcast of “Thursday Night Football” was seen by more than 20 million viewers, the network said.

CBS earlier said its broadcast with the NFL Network of the Steelers and Ravens had an overnight household rating of 13.7, which more than doubled the first non-opener Thursday night game last season. Last year, Thursday night games were only shown on the NFL Network.

The viewership numbers that CBS estimated as 20.9 million viewers was up from 11.0 million in the comparable game, which was Jets-Patriots on Sept. 12, 2013.

Previous Thursday night games had been confined to the NFL Network, but will be shown on both this season.
