Puppies promise ‘Super Bowl of Cuteness’

By Lori Lundin, WTOP News

WASHINGTON– It’s the Superbowl of cuteness.

A reported 12.4 million viewers tuned in for last year’s big game, and Animal Planet expects even more viewers for Puppy Bowl X. With over 60 pups from shelters and rescue groups around the country, expect to see an adorable starting lineup with good defense, terrier touchdowns and puppy penalties. And of course, they’re hoping for a fair Rufferee.

Meanwhile, reporter Meep the Bird will tweet live updates, and there will be online voting for Most Valuable Puppy. Penguin cheerleaders and a kitten halftime show will round out the entertainment.

The action starts at 3p.m. ET on Animal Planet, just as the pre-Super Bowl shows start ramping-up football elsewhere.

Animal Planet expects even more viewers for Puppy Bowl 10

WTOP’s Lori Lundin reports.

The puppies, which represent 30 animal shelters and rescue groups, will compete by chasing a plush toy on the Animal Planet gridiron, located at the Discovery Times Square Experience in New York City.

Some of the dogs got special VIP training recently, as First Lady Michelle Obama hosted several shelter dogs for a work-out session on the White House lawn.
