Gifford questions Martin Short about wife — two years after her death (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON – An unfortunate gaffe by Kathie Lee Gifford in an interview with Martin Short left the “Today” host taking to Twitter to apologize.

The New York Daily News reports Short was on the NBC morning show to promote the film “Madagascar 3” when during an interview Gifford posed questions to him about why his marriage has been so successful.

The problem: Short’s wife, Nancy Dolman, died in 2010.

“And he and Nancy have got one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business,” Gifford said. “How many years now for you guys?”

“We…uh…(have been) married 36 years,” Short replied.

Gifford continued, with Short gracefully parrying queries about still being in love.

Afterward, Gifford apologized over Twitter:

A spokeswoman for Short told the Daily News the actor “just moved right along” from the incident.

“We appreciate if everyone else might do the same so as not to make a huge deal about it either,” she said.
