Aretha Franklin’s press run doesn’t go so well (Video)

WASHINGTON — There’s no denying singer Aretha Franklin’s place among the greats.

In the 1960s, the Memphis, Tennessee vocalist rose to international fame behind songs “Think,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “Respect.”

With a career spanning almost 60 years, Franklin has certainly earned the right to be called the “Queen of Soul.”

Unfortunately, she isn’t the queen of interviews. During a recent press run to promote her new album, “Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics,” the queen’s interviews were rife with dead air, awkward passes and mistimed responses.

For that matter, the reporters telling Franklin that they love her is pretty awkward, too.

But those moments are small compared with Franklin’s showing, which she attributed to her age (72) and getting only four hours of sleep the night before.
